Queen Of The Hive
I have always been inspired by nature. I use colors and textures from nature in my designs. For this transformation project, I took the inspiration from the queen of the beehive. My idea was to bring the elegance and beauty of nature transformed into a vogueish dress. The challenge for my design was to transform it to another dress while keeping its original interpretation intact.
The original design consists of an evening gown dress that transforms into a sheath dress with a shoulder cape. The gold color was chosen to give the effect of honey. Smocking effect on the front of the dress gives the visual appearance of the hive. The queen bee is usually marked with different color to identify them in the hive. The turquoise color added to the bottom of the dress gives the telltale effect of the beehive queen. The black beaded mesh on the back was used to give the appearance of the prominent dark eyes of the bees. This dress was shown on the runway fashion show arranged by the West Virginia University. I was awarded second position for transformation.
